Where this all started…

So, here’s where it all started.

 

If you read my introduction, you’ll know that the name of this site comes from an early gift project I did.    Well after a year and a half of writing here, I have decided that it’s time.

I am going to redo this little cookbook of mine.

The first thing to change is going to be the binding.  Copper rings seemed like a neat idea, but in use, they tend to bend and the pages stick to them making it hard to open and turn the pages.  So, if it becomes a paper book, a more conventional binding is in order here.  The next thing to change will be the cover.  The originals each have a matted and mounted photograph as the cover with hand lettered title.  Of course the new edition, because it will premier as an electronic book, won’t have the same type cover.  Even it it does get physically printed, the cover will be a more conventional printed cover.  Finally, all the photography will be updated and expanded.

Now for the hard part.  Figuring out the new artwork, and the time table for getting this project completed.  Then there is the hardest part of them all.  Actually marketing the book.

The artwork, while it will take me some time to do.  I want to come up with new subject matter and add some photos of some of the finished recipes.   Since I’m not going to rewrite the recipes, they are indicative of how I cooked and ate at the time.  Honestly, they represent what was and still is considered healthy eating.  Overall, I think that I should be ready for publishing somewhere around April or May.

That’s when the real work begins…

We Wish You A Merry Christmas…

No need to bring us some figgy pudding.

This afternoon I made my own.

For those not familiar with this dessert, its the old English  pastry sung about in the song We Wish You A Merry Christmas.  By US standards, its not really a pudding.  Its more of a dense cake.

While the recipe was good, and produced an acceptable pudding/cake.  I wasn’t completely satisfied with the texture and flavor.  I would have liked something that kept the density of this one yet somehow seemed lighter in texture but richer in flavor.  I would also have liked to make it paleo friendly or at the very least gluten free.  This being my first attempt at it though I followed the recipe, there is time for tweeking before next Christmas.  I’ll have to see what I can do over the year.  Off hand, sugar can be replaced with honey and or maple syrup.  Its really the flour that will cause the most problems.  Nut flours don’t hold together as well, and coconut flour might be way too dense.  I’m going to have to experiment on different flour combinations.  I’m sure I’ll get it figured out for next year though.  So periodically I’ll post the test results.

Making small steps into the future…

My postings will be concentrating on me for a while.  I’m going to try not to rant about things or discuss big agribusiness’s corporate greed.  Honest I’ll try.

No, I’m going to talk about the future and the small steps I’m currently taking toward that end.  I think that’s important.  A person cannot always focus their energies on negative things.  It starts to mess with a person’s outlook on life.

So, I’ve taken a step back into my photography days, and now have prints for sale.  All of them are current work.  You can find my gallery on Smug Mug.   On Smug Mug, you can find me under my studio name, JGWStudios.
